What is a Private ADSL WAN?
This is an application of ADSL/SDSL technology
which allows multi-site offices or remote
workers to share information and resources,
without passing through the public internet.
Companies can create simple multi layered
networks which give the same functionality as a
LAN, but spread over multiple geographic
locations without the huge costs of leased lines
and expensive routing equipment. In addition the
highly trained staff at Gconnect can assist in
the design and setup of your network, negating
the need for costly consultancy and staff
training. The system lends itself to hosted
servers within the remote network as users will
then benefit from the larger download speed of
ADSL. Gconnect provide the hosting service which
can include maintenance and setup of the
hardware. |

How does it work (in
broad terms!)
When your company connects to a specially
set-up ADSL or SDSL account, instead of creating
a connection to the public internet, the
connection is securely tunnelled through to a
private network which is dedicated to your
company. Subsequent connections from your other
sites are also terminated in the same network
address range, which again is reserved for your
company. Depending on your company’s
requirements, you are allocated a number of
ports in a VLAN switch which allows you to
attach servers to run applications such as
Microsoft Exchange, File Servers, Intranets etc.
Users wishing to browse the internet can do so
through a firewall set up to meet the company
needs. |
