It's only when your email has
gone, either accidentally deleted, theft, fire
or otherwise that customers wish they had taken
a backup. It’s a harsh truth that people do not
back up their computers and often make no
provision for the loss of mail boxes.
There are other reasons for wanting to archive
mail, perhaps you feel that members of staff are
not ‘using their time effectively’ ie: applying
for other jobs, abusing the mail system or many
other activities that do not benefit your
business. With transparent mail archiving, that
is not a problem! Simply telling people that the
mail archiving activity is going on is a
productivity enhancer in itself. |

The Ins and Outs
When a mail is delivered to our primary mail
servers, it is copied away and appended to an IMAP mail box which is read only. This is done
on a ‘per domain’ or per user basis. The IMAP
boxes are stored in weekly dumps to make
searching through nice and easy. There is no
evidence to either the sender of the mail or the
recipient of the mail that this has happened.
Users should be made aware that this is
happening, but once informed will have no effect
on the day to day activity.
When users send outgoing email, the SMTP
authentication method is used to copy and
redirect the mail to another IMAP box, this also
is transparent to the senders and recipients.
The IMAP box is available to the system
administrator, and cannot be modified.
When you have filled up the 1GB of IMAP space,
you have three options,
1. Buy another GB
2. Buy the Archive on DVD
3. Delete part of the archive
Gconnect will cut the DVD for you and keep one
copy in our records and post one copy to you. |

Technical notes:
This service is available to Gconnect email
customers and cannot be purchased as a stand
alone product.
Only mail relayed through our smtp service can
be archived.
Outgoing mail archiving is sorted on your smtp
authentication, not on the domain name.
It is recommended that customers use our
Antispam/Antivirus solution in conjunction with
this product, otherwise you will be archiving
the spam. |
